Manchester United have stepped up their interest and are keen to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is also keen on joining Old Trafford.
Manchester United are set to sign Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna in a deal worth €40m, but that won’t rule out England striker Toney remaining on the radar.
According to Christian Falk of Bild, Manchester United will target Toney after completing the signing of Zirkzee. With the 28-year-old striker also keen on ยูฟ่าเบท a move to Old Trafford and the player’s representatives have already informed Brentford of this.
Toney has one year left on his contract at Brentford so the club will not block a move this summer. And manager Thomas Frank is also hopeful of getting a fair fee.
For Toney, He only returned to the pitch for Brentford in mid-January. Midway through last season, after serving an eight-month ban for breaching FA betting rules. But rediscovered his best form in time for England’s Euro 2024 squad and played a part in the quarter-final penalty shootout win over Switzerland.
Toney said: ‘Everyone knows that I would love to play for a top team and be at the top of the leagues, playing with the best.
‘I am a Brentford player at the moment and until that time comes, whether it is this window or at the end of the season or whenever it does happen, then so be it, but right now I am a Brentford player and that’s my focus.’
Toney will seek to win the first major honour of his career when England take on Spain in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final.
